How on earth did Baz Luhrmann ever get the budget to make this…?
I genuinely do think this does a pretty good job of updating Romeo & Juliet for a 90s audience.
It’s no West Side Story, and it fumbles a few key scenes with a cringe overload, but it’s perfectly cast and overall probably a bit underrated.
The pacing of this is actually quite exhausting, and it’s pretty thin on character and plot, but my word is this artistically fascinating.
Painful to watch but incredibly powerful. Masterful in its brutally visceral depiction of war, capturing the senseless violence, the loss of life and the bravery and heroism of those fighting to save people.
