  I appreciate the narrative and the thing about looking through your fingers.  But otherwise, I don’t agree that this movie is as marvelous as so many think it is.

  Black Bag 2025

  Black Bag is a super fun flick. It’s got espionage, humor, delightful dinner parties, and pitch-perfect acting. 

  Cate Blanchett is luminous as always, and Michael Fassbender doesn’t miss a beat. Be sure to keep an eye on Marisa Abela who steals A LOT of scenes from a group of sharp characters. 

  And it’s that perfect sweet-spot length of 93min. 

  Soderbergh and Koepp are three for three in my book.

  I’m struggling with how to star-rate this.

  I love the way the lore is incorporated into the plotline; I love the way the animatronics look. I love the way the restaurant looks.

  You’d think by now teenagers would know that a possession party trick is probably a bad idea. Thankfully, they still do the dumb things. 

  I really enjoyed this movie, as it’s far more than a cheap party possession trick. Since it’s A24, of course there are metaphorical intentions behind character motivations, but that adds to the tension. Sophie Willis is fantastic in this, and there are some genuinely unsettling moments during both the party tricks and the after-effects. Absolutely worth your time.
