  No matter how desolate the horizon for campy movies is you can always rely on theater kids to be really weird. I feel like theater kids watched the original and took the ironic exaggerations literally.

  Second viewing, this movie is so fun to me. I love imagining the pre production and excitement this rag tag bunch of artists had being given a budget, and the ups and downs of the filmmaking process. The visuals are stunning, and the way it's treated in the broader pop culture landscape is interesting.   I thought I'd not like this movie because i don't like musicals in general (except for cabaret I love you cabaret)
  I dislike the random bursts into song when it's uncomfortable and random, but this movie makes it natural enough. This movie had so much charm it was impossible for me not to enjoy.
