Of course I’m going to rate this 5 stars, my name is in the credits.

This is a short background rather than a review.
What started off as a 30 second test scene for a school project, turned into making a 10 minute short.
Our biggest challenge was finding the cast, or the lack of a cast which meant that Preston, Mike and I ended up having to be on screen while navigating making The Chair.

While I could get by watching the plot unravel from a mile away, a brick could have stood in for John Cena’s deadpan tough guy and yet made a better impression.

  • Carry-On

    Carry-On

    ★★★★

Carry-On boldly charges ahead to deliver a gripping thriller under leadership by Jaume Collet-Serra. The film gets there, albeit with a little imagination. As a made for television project, Carry-On serves the suspense, action, drama, chases along with filler that seems more beneficial if cut than extend the running time to two hours.
Personally, I was hooked and entertained for the most part. I especially enjoy Jason Bateman in serious/villain roles and he has yet to disappoint when it comes to a serious character performance.

    Nope

    ★★★

Jordan Peeles technical abilities seem to keep getting better with each project. Each individual facet of this film, when dissected is quite commendable but all that said, Nope did not quite hit the mark for me personally.
Maybe I will chalk it up to my pickiness when it comes to sci-fi but I had too many questions by the end of it. Also what was the point of Ricky Jupe Park and the Gordy storyline?
Ultimately, a strong and intriguing start that trails off midway for me. Maybe a rewatch will reveal more the second time around.

    Thanksgiving

    ★★★★

I was unsure how Eli Roth could make a modern slasher interesting but Thanksgiving did not disappoint.
The movie follows a general slasher blueprint yet manages to keep it fresh. For Eli Roth’s usual standards, the gore did not seem excessive and the slayings were designed creatively well with the story. The red herrings although apparent, still kept me guessing the identity of the killer.
