Christine 1983
Fun, but not as fun as I remembered. Finally reading the book tarnished it a bit - the novel is spookier, more tense, and far more psychologically grounded - but this doesn't have the oomph of Carpenter's best work. Still, it's a good time, with some great images, but it all feels perfunctory. Both leads are great, but Leigh, who's a weak character on the page, is even worse here.

The Way of the Gun 2000
In high school, I typed up the final monologue from this film and put it in the front of one of my binders. No regrets. Christopher McQuarrie made the most viscerally bleak, mean, and unsexy crime film of the nineties, and god will never forgive him.
