What I love about reading Dog Man with my kid is that behind all the insane, unfocused, nearly incomprehensible silliness there is a beautiful message in nearly every story.
And the movie focuses on one of the big ones from the books: finding love in the world.
I feel like the people giving this negative reviews because the movie is “unfocused” have never read a Dog Man book…
I’m torn.
Shockingly, I enjoyed both Renfield and Kraven’s performances, but disliked this Orlok. I know I am comparing him to the traditional depiction of Nosferatu, and clearly he went for a more accurate Eastern European style, but what you end up with is less of a ghoul, and more a slight zombified version of Ivan the Terrible.
Either way, it is still Eggers film and looks great, with everything thought out and themes of love and death. Great Christmas watch.
Woooow, Neil Marshall how you have fallen. This is worse than Dog Soldiers in quality, but still somehow fun. CGI is terrible, acting is atrocious, and arguably the most interesting setting is abandoned 20 minutes into the movie.
It may sound weird, but Charlotte Kirk seems to be having a ton of fun in this movie and gives a pretty decent double deuce that made me laugh.
Is this great? No. Am I glad it’s part of Shudder? Absolutely.
