Woman in the Dunes was an intriguing experience. The plot is simple and original: a tourist from Tokyo gets trapped in a sand dune pit where a woman lives in an old wooden house, enslaved by nearby villagers. The tourist has no choice but to stay with the woman, to his great discontent.

After reading all the praise, Anora did not live up to my expectations. I’m not a fan of farcical plots, and the seemingly endless hysterical screaming and arguing got on my nerves to the point of turning down the volume for a while. Furthermore, in my humble opinion, a little less sex would have benefitted the film.
Despite my criticism, I thought the story was relatively original, and some of the situations did make me laugh, so a 7 out of 10 seems appropriate to me. But this is once again a testimonial to the relativity of Oscar hype.
