    Full Metal Jacket

    ★★★★

I have seen parts of Full Metal Jacket here and there but this is my first time watching the whole thing. It’s very dark and harrowing. I found the first half of the film in boot camp difficult to watch at times but Vincent D'Onofrio gives the best performance as Private Pyle.

I haven’t watched many of Stanley Kubrick’s films but I liked his direction and the cinematography. The transition between boot camp and Vietnam was smooth, it’s overall well crafted and at the same time realistic and foul mouthed. I can see why people rate this war movie so highly.

    The Driver

    ★★★★

A sleek crime film from Walter Hill. The car chases in The Driver are so good and very skilfully shot. There’s lots of screeching tires. It makes such a difference when the stunts are actually performed for real, it adds an authenticity to the film. Ryan O’Neal is great as The Driver. Dune

    ★★★★½

Dune is such a captivating and dramatic film directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on the books from Frank Herbert. From the start I liked the guttural sound of the introduction to this movie. Dune has such a talented cast and I especially enjoyed the fierce performances from Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Josh Brolin.

There’s some great cinematography and the tense soundtrack accompanies it perfectly. After watching Dune for the first time, I wanted to learn everything I could about the lore. I’m currently reading the first three books in the franchise.

    Mickey 17

    ★★★★½

A wonderful and wacky film from Bong Joon Ho. Mickey 17 is a goofy space oddity with some great cinematography and brilliant production design. Robert Pattinson's comedic talent really shows in this movie, playing the polar opposite personalities of both Mickey 17 and 18.

It’s a wild ride and exactly what I was expecting from Bong Joon Ho. The film is full of political satire, with Mark Ruffalo's hilarious performance as politician and all around douche bag Kenneth Marshall. The character…
