Holy Electricity 2024
An assembly of beautiful shots of Georgian life tied together by a loose plot that verges into incoherency in the second half. Unfortunately it’s a bit obvious that this was a director of photography’s first go at a film.

On Falling 2024
Debut features rarely get better than this. Carreira’s film about the modern proletariat evokes Loach and Leigh but doesn’t become trapped in their shadows. I can think of no better portrayal of alienation than here: to live in a world that’s so interconnected and yet still so deeply lonely. Caricature and moralizing are avoided, and while the despair can feel suffocating, it’s balanced with reminders that the smallest of gestures from your fellow man can be the needed reprieve to see the day through.

Grand Theft Hamlet 2024
Charming, quirky and poignant in places, but as something to actually watch I wasn’t very engaged by it. Maybe the medium lets it down because I think witnessing it live or watching a livestream would have been tremendous fun. But as is, it’s not what I’m looking for in cinema.
