Basically a Harry Potter solo movie. Ron’s arc is way more petty and immature without the time to really develop his insecurities like the book did. The TriWizard tournament isn’t quite as epic on film but you can only do so much in two hours. It’s still a great adventure that very emphatically turns the page on the young, innocent days of the Golden Trio at Hogwarts. Hermoine’s anxious last line “things will never be the same again, will they?”…

A bit overrated in the franchise’s body of work but an important turning point nonetheless. I still have no idea how they got Alfonzo to direct this. It feels like a much better sequel to the first film than the god awful Chamber of Secrets. They’re all being…

Any flaws this film has are forgiven by the sheer scale and ambition required to actually pull it off. Every frame is beautifully shot and dripping with atmosphere, lore, and detail, establishing the iconic set pieces the series’ characters would spend the next seven films inhabiting. We don’t talk enough about how even without the franchise, Philosopher’s Stone still stands on its own as one of the best family-friendly fantasy adventure films of all time.
