I have two main problems with this movie.
1) Candlemakers simply do not have the technology to make a candle that smells like a real pie actually baking
2) It feels out of character for this guy to mention drinking the Koolaid and not mention that Jonestown ACTUALLY drank Flavor Aid
I liked this better as a stage production.
There were some awkward choices made in this adaptation. It was really poorly lit and unflattering for the actors skin tones. There was some really egregious green screen action in the pool scene and a lot of tacky editing choices. The animation in 96,000 was completely unnecessary and looked cheap.
The changes they made to Nina’s storyline made it a lot less believable than the original plot. AND they sanitized Benny’s story.
Overall, it was just NOT good.
The first half reminded me of why I fell in love with of Montreal. The last half reminded me of why I fell out.
I’m all about the promotion of critical thinking and authenticity. That part of the message is fine with me, even if I do think that it could have been delivered in a far less corny way.
What I’m not about is watching a bunch of cringy, self-important nepo babies treat the world like their personal playground at the expense of everyone else around them.
