Half a decent film. The intro is superb, Mèlanie Laurent’s plot line is great, and the tavern scene with Fassbender and crew is wonderful. But any time Pitt is on screen the film becomes a farce, dragging Christoph Waltz from menacing to cringe inducing as the film plays out. Much as I love Bowie, Cat People feels really jarring, and marks the point that the film descends into a silly, self parodying final act which leaves a nasty taste.

Jackie Brown 1997
Tarantino’s least Tarantino so far (ever?) is definitely not diminished as a result. It’s mostly a more mature, focused, and conventional effort based on Elmore Leonard’s novel.
Despite the goofy appearance, Jackson gives one of his best performances. Grier and Forster are in career best form. Tarantino keeps his less desirable impulses in check, and lets the characters build before executing the caper at the film’s core.
