even better on a rewatch. cary grant is my action hero. the best pre-blockbuster blockbuster by a long shot. plays with tension and time, and is just impeccably written. set design, color, composition, just stellar.
endlessly rich and rewatchable. just a MOVIE. could be playing anytime and I’d be so happy!

The Talented Mr. Ripley 1999
a glorious overstuffed beautiful beautiful mess. didn’t always love the sickly-sweet score and heavy handed directing but I adored all the performances and CHOICES…. gorgeously steamy and exciting and full of the best actors ever. philip seymour hoffman obviously great but the standouts to me were Cate Blanchett (the greatest) and the Italian detective… gwyneth does some great work too.
matt damon is really fucking hot in this movie?!
