While Doctor Sleep can't escape the errors of The Shining Film, it provides a slight course correction for the series. Like The Shining, Doctor Sleep takes a intricate, emotional story and boils it down to the very basics, albeit more successfully than it's predecessor. While both films leave a lot to be desired, I appreciate Flannagan's attempts merge the film and book mythos into a moderately satisfying conclusion. I look forward to a more faithful adaptation to the source material in the future.

Side Effects 2013
The film Side Effects bears many similarities to Hitchcockian style. The first and one of the most obvious is the opening shot. This crane shot of a city landscape exactly mimics that of Psycho's opening sequence. Another major similarity is in the plot and characters. The plot of this film is very misleading and constantly makes you question what you think you know. The characters on the other hand are designed very similarly to those of Hitchcockian cinema. They are similarly obsessive and paranoid like that of Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo.

The Wolverine 2013
By far the best X-Men movie yet, The Wolverine was captivating, engaging, beautiful and unique. Because X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a major flop I was really looking to this film to bring back the Wolverine audiences know and love. Following up X-Men First Class, this movie had big shoes to fill. In my opinion, the Wolverine blew X-Men First Class out of the water. The story was rich with mystery and action, and of course everyone’s favorite actor, Hugh Jackman.…

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari 1920
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari pulls elements from Melies's style of film, focusing on the surreal, and fictional world rather than the real world, as Lumiere did. In A Trip to the Moon, we see a very abstract, yet limited world. The scenery is strange and unusual but still appears as more of a set to a play than an actual film. In The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Wiene expands upon the simple world of a set and makes it…
