my goat my king. I really love how this movie embodies the spirit of an artist beholden only to themselves. the counterculture and unknown spirit that bob Dylan is and was— is incredible to see and has one of my favorite endings to a movie I’ve seen in recent memory. its one person against what it seems like the whole world, and telling said world where they stand. The movie captures not only Dylan, but also the feeling and sentiment of the 60s making it a really impressive time period piece. Will add more thoughts later, but for now, definitely one of my favorites
I feel that this is a movie that doesn’t dive too deep into its themes or characters barring Elisabeth. Understandably it’s a satire, but it’s also really on the nose and obvious, which leaves you spoon fed through the entire movie. performances were great and the effects are stunning, but the story and the character writing itself leaves a lot to be desired.
The dilemma the movie presents is truly conflicting and the finale capitalizes on this. We're shown time and time again that the movies wants to say that Fletcher's abuse towards his students is not right, but at the end, Fletcher achieves what he's always wanted, his own Charlie Parker. As a society, whether its in music, sports, politics, or even parenting, do the ends justify the means? In the grand calculus of things, is greatness worth the cost? I think…
Solid movie
Really impressive for its time
Themes of what it means to be a human are done very well
