    Psycho

    ★★★½

I liked this movie in general, though not as much as Vertigo. I felt that Vertigo had a far deeper plot and a more disturbing one at that, and Vertigo makes the viewer think more than Psycho does. I did notice a few similar things in Psycho and Vertigo, such as panning landscape shots and fade outs. The landscape shot of Arizona was very similar to the one of San Fransisco in Vertigo. Whiplash

A sequence from the second half of the movie is the final sequence, which lasts for about 20 min and is when Andrew is on stage with the professional band. There are a lot of different techniques used in this sequence, such as eisensteinian amplification in the final drum solo as well as some tonal poetry, with the cuts echoing the beat of the actual music playing. Also there is a part when fletcher looks directly at the camera, which reminds me of Goddard's style in breathless.

One scene from the first part of the movie is the scene around a half hour into the movie where Fletcher is trying to correct Andrew's tempo. This is similar to the style in Battleship Potemkin when there is a lot of punctuation used while the movie still just taking place on the boat.

Most of Nosferatu takes place in real towns and buildings, though there are some shots that seem Caligari-ish such as the shot of the vampire's house silhouetted against the sky when Harker crosses the bridge into the land of phantoms. Another similarity is the use of shadows to create meaning in almost exactly the same way: in…
