I can't imagine how complex it was to coordinate all the shots, and how Noomi Rapace was able to remain consistent in her subtly or vastly different portrayals of 7 different characters. Yes, there was some charicature and the standard division of roles, but overall it was convincing and fun. It wasn't much of a stretch to imagine it being a possible future. The revelations at the end weren't really suprising, but still there's something horrific and chilling about the authoritarian paraphrasing of "some of you will die, but that's a sacrifice I'm prepared to make".

Extra star for Noomi, just because.

For at least the first half of the film I was thinking this was too derivative, re-treading old ground, the visual style too generic

I wasn't sure whether the boss was meant to be comic or a parody, but neither really worked for me, and I was just annoyed by him.

But then I was gradually taken in by Kang Soo-yeon quiet assured performance. Her relationship with her mother was compelling and emotionally complex. By the end I was quite invested.

The story only really got interesting in the last quarter, which is a bit long to hang in there.

It feels as though everywhere you point the camera in Iceland is stunning.

But that's not really enough to carry the film.

I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters until far too far into the film.

There were a few memorable moments, but its very premise of trying to create a story out of 9 disparate photographs still manages to leave gaps unfilled, and very little in the way of drama. The central character is dull at…

    Another great Robert Altman film.

Looks great, has interesting camera movement, the dialogue is clever and inventive, there are details at the edges, and a kind of chaos sometimes, with people talking over one another, but it all feels natural.

I don't think I've seen Elliot Gould star in anything before, other than M*A*S*H although that's more of an ensemble. He's great as the relaxed, good guy, smart talking gumshoe, often making asides which feel like you were fortunate enough…
