A weird, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt sci-fi satire with Robert Pattinson fully embracing the chaos, and while it’s not really the most cohesive ride, Bong Joon-ho’s sharp humor and endless stream of wild ideas make it incredibly entertaining to watch.

    Companion

    ★★★★

Fast-paced horror comedy that’s funny, shocking, and satisfyingly bloody. Creative uses of corkscrews and voice modulators. It’s not parody, but razor-sharp satire, with a remorseless sense of empowerment. Packed with twists and shock factor, this crowd-pleaser is a perfect date movie for the modern era.

    Death of a Unicorn

    ★★½

Lowbrow “eat the rich” slasher weighed down by nonstop Marvel Humor™ and lackluster CGI gore. The film takes far too long to get going, and once it does, it focuses on all the wrong characters—played by forgettable actors who struggle to maintain a consistent tone while delivering stilted dialogue and unfunny jokes. The cheap sentimentality at the end only further leaves a bad taste.

  • Ash

    Ash

    ★★★

Ash is a wild, gory ride set on a remote planet. Eiza González plays Riya, an astronaut with no memory, trying to figure out what happened to her crew while dealing with flashbacks and a creepy vibe. The movie's light on story and character depth, but it makes up for it with insane visuals, a killer techno soundtrack, and brutal violence. It’s got that Event Horizon feel, but with more neon and weird CGI monsters. The flashing lights can get a bit much, and it’s definitely more style than substance, but if you’re into crazy space horror with a lot of blood, it’s got you covered.

Personally I would not give my emotionally repressed fiancé mushrooms a day after his mother died but that's just me.
