  thinking about this a lot!!! even tho the psychosexual repression -> fascism idea feels sooo overplayed i think it is maybe more helpful to view as an edge case that reveals something at the center instead of being a more universal study of what makes someone a fascist. want to rewatch a couple times.

  love how it plays w this gaudy but simultaneous seductive/devadwnt fascist aesthetic (architecture but also interiors, decor). 

  love how the characters’ interiority is kind of mysterious…

  first 40 or so minutes i was like “this is fun but i don’t Get It” but wow the longer it went on the more i Got It. so much happening here — it’s Cinema baby — but the thing i love the most is the banality of the conspiracy, the way the why of it was besides the point, in contrast to so many other conspiracy movies.

  also struck by…. the way it’s hitchcock but w hollywood gloss and glamor taken away w the sleaze and camp heightened.

  what a Great American film!!!
