Sister Midnight 2024
does it still count as going cuckoo if you’re eating one? loved being in Uma’s world, at first as a voyeur but later - as each of her relatable and impulsive quirks are exposed - it felt more like a mirror
this film questions and challenges what a normal person really is, I think I agree that somewhere inside all of us is a sexless, mop-wielding plant burglar

Elephant 2003
pretty sure I skipped a beat when I realised what was going on, loved the weightless camerawork and the slow burn buildup throughout kept me gripped. actually might be my favourite genre of filmmaking: nonlinear/fractured timelines that then connect from different perspectives (a bit like the Simpsons episode that spoofed Run Lola Run)
kudos points for being a sub 100 mins watch on my Palme-D’or-winners-since-1999 watchlist, also I read somewhere that this film was slated at the time because it was deemed as too art house, suppose that haunting subtlety could have done with a bit of acdc

How to Have Sex 2023
first things first: Mia McKenna-Bruce 🔥 the OG brat girl summer in acid green 🟢🍏
HTHS is a knockout unfiltered take on modern British teenage life, with a not-so-subtle reminder of how our education system fails people like Tara - a system so hellbent on scaremongering the importance of her grades, that it stops well short on preparing her for the real, immediate, life-changing situations she’s hurtling towards, Tara is totally unarmed
Molly Manning Walker proves just how unqualified we all are for adulthood, whilst ironically creating a masterpiece that would be one of the most valuable additions to the curriculum itself
