  Much of the discourse I've seen about the film revolves around Mark Ruffalo’s Trump-ian dictator figure, and while that was my least favourite part of the film I think there is enjoyment to be gleaned from Ruffalo’s take on a politician who is half colonizer and half Jimmy Fallon.

  I wasn’t really that interested in this film from the trailers. Fassbender has already played some compelling spies, most recently in The Killer and on the The Agency, and the seeing the trailer for this film garnered an uninspiring “Ah, again? really?” from me. But it pulled me in! It has a the usual Soderbergh sleekness, that mixed in with a very griping opening act and I was hooked. It’s comfortably the best new release of the year so far, and a return to form for one of our great working directors.

  I had never watched this on the big screen, just the hundreds of times on the PC on my dad’s desk. I still know every line, every “oh boy”, and every cape-shit sequence; all of which still hold up. The children yearn for another earnest spider-man movie, but unfortunately, if someone made a movie about Spider-Man as good as this one they’d be tried for witchcraft.
