    Heretic

Strong psychological horror thriller featuring a cheeky Hugh Grant. In some ways, it’s a religious take on MISERY.

    Enter the Clones of Bruce

    ★★★★

Highly entertaining docu of the Brucesploitation martial arts movies that came out in the wake of Bruce Lee’s death. It’s a bit exhausting with all the ground it has to cover (~200 films).

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

    ★★★½

Wrapping up the 9-film Skywalker Saga in a bow, Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker retreats back to safe choices more often than not. Shocking moments are course corrected, homages to the prior films are laid on thick, and John Williams’ score keeps nudging you in the ribs.

All that being said, the main story works despite being a bit convoluted. As with Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith, a slick beginning and strong ending…

    Charlie's Angels

    ★½

Dull quasi-sequel/reboot of Charlie’s Angels on the silver screen. McG’s duology from the early 2000s amped up the comedy and camp with light Matrix style action. In this go around, Elizabeth Banks eschews comedy for a more Bourne Identity sort of desaturated action picture.

It doesn’t work. Though bon mots are trades between the trio of ladies, they rarely land with the oomph. A plot twist near the end livens things up a tad, and somehow a boatload of cameos peppered through the end credits is more fun that the feature itself. These angels are drab and dour. Do not want.
