Thought the opening was a bit too on the nose, even for Bong. Only to then find out that was a true event.
This is the kind of movie only Bong can make
Just a perfect movie. Even on re-watches it is absolutely engrossing from the very beginning. Bong is a master of balancing tone. It will never stop surprising me that a movie with this subject matter is also one of the funniest movies I've seen.
Less than five minutes into the movie we see Michelle Yeoh smiling as she fires a huge machine gun from a horse drawn carriage. It only gets better from there.
I came in with high expectations and it more than delivered. Immediate all timer for me.
The set pieces and fight sequences are so good throughout. Michelle Yeoh's stunts are excellent and every moment of her performance is filled with so much charm.
Richard Ng is a standout as well with a hilarious performance.
A perfect action comedy all in a 90 min package. Couldn't ask for more.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
A grim view into the relationship between isolation, the modern internet, and parasocial relationships. As well as how those have rapidly evolved since the pandemic.
It's unclear what the movie ultimately thinks about its protagonist, but that ambiguity works in its favor.
Excellent filmmaking. A deeply unsettling and tense movie without any actual scares or horror. The sense of voyeurism from both the protagonist and the audience feels truly evil.
