  Since my guy went to the big diner in the sky, I've been rewatching all his stuff and it's wild that his stuff remains so captivating despite having seen em a bunch. Love that all his movies feel like wandering around his brain space.

  Anyway, this movie rocks. A great American romance in our bleak American landscape

  Sean Baker's populist, pretty picture. I like Anora for all the reasons I like his other movies- it's often funny (shoutout to Karren Karagulian), layered Altman style dialogue, doesn't settle for easy catharsis, concerned with the disposability of the working class, and moves with a frenetic velocity. It has this sheen, tho, that gives me pause. I guess maybe when something is this polished, it makes me worry that it's empathy tips into a sort of shallow, pity NPR segment…
