Well, now... this probably isn't the first film one checks out when it comes to the late great Gene Hackman's acting prowess, but given his recent (at the time of writing this review) passing, I figured I'd give one of his not-so-popular efforts a chance.

I will not lie, this is a pretty grim movie - it doesn't help that it's based on an actual real-life case. Writing-wise, it's a pretty solid script, I can't find too many flaws there,…

Interesting premise but it doesn't quite live up to the potential, mainly because one can of footage went missing after filming wrapped, and as such, the final film had to be edited around what was left. In other words, we get two decent acts and a VERY rushed third act. It's a shame, because the story is actually interesting and intriguing, and everyone brings their A-game in terms of acting.

One thing I will complain about is how the soundtrack by Maurice Gibb (yes, that one, of the Bee Gees) never got an official release. It's a shame, because it's great to listen to.

I remember watching this 2-part documentary on BBC 2 when it was first shown waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 2011 (the year I graduated college at the young and hopeful age of 23). Despite it lacking the depth of the 3-part "Magic Years" documentary (which, as far as I'm concerned, is only available on VHS), it hits the right beats and is edited quite well, although I do wish a little extra time had been spared to go into the Flash Gordon…

This film has a split personality. It can't decide whether it wants to be a Queen biopic or an in-depth look at one of the greatest musical icons who ever lived, so it tries to be both with mixed results. Rami Malek fully deserved his Oscar win in my opinion, and while his on-screen bandmates do a good job, they don't nearly get as enough screen time or development since most of the film's first half is wasted on Freddie…
