  Quality aside, the Alien series has always lended itself to giving its directors the freedom to make bold creative choices in line with their own unique sensibilities (from Ridley Scott to yep, even Joss Whedon 😆). I’m not familiar with Fede Álvarez and his strengths but this may have done him a disservice. There wasn’t even a hint of spice on display!   This film was so genuine and unlike anything I've seen before. It's a character study played out through a string of pieces, each with distinct and deep ideas. Yet, they flow well thanks to Wendell B. Harris Jr.'s incredible performance and sensibilities in front and behind the camera. The editing is bananas.
