Revised down half a star. Not sure how I feel about this picture at this point, except it is pretty nasty, cynical stuff, slickly produced. Not in the same league as Ex Machina or Annihilation, or his work on the 28 Days series.

“The world is coming to an end. So, where would you rather die? Here? Or in a Jaeger?!?”
Second watch, first in years. 4k disc delivers a visual and aural feast. The best big robot movie I’ve ever seen by a large measure. This must be because it concentrates relentlessly on being a good movie FIRST, before worrying about eye candy, high concepts, and special effects.
Wild imagination and coherent direction is meshed with breezy fun and humor throughout. Future sci-fi disaster epics should follow its template.
Ron Perlman steals the show in a small role.

Lucy 2014
2nd watch overall, first since around the time it came out. Probably saw it on Netflix DVD around 2015. Didn’t remember much about it except my memory recorded the basic story set up, and that it was just “okay.” Glad I picked this up on the 4k disc because I liked it a lot more this time. Terrific sci-fi action spectacle, which moves at a blistering pace. Gorgeous 4k presentation and stunning cinematography increased my enjoyment, appreciation, and rating of the film.

Leave the World Behind 2023
“This is a nightmare. This is a fu%^ing nightmare.”
I felt the same way when I realized there were still 33 minutes to go in this pointless, silly, interminable film.
Good actors wasted on poorly conceived material with no payoffs.
