Went and saw Top Gun: Maverick again. As great as the whole 'Mach 10' opening is, the movie really takes off during the bar sequence. The direction of this sequence, starting off kinda quiet while gradually introducing the supporting cast, ending on an emotional note... Amazing.

Just watched this again. What a classic. This is as meticulous a film production by John Carpenter as he’s ever made. There really are no flaws in the overall mise en scene.
