disregard the parrot chef review, this movie is so much more than that—a beautiful reflection on what it means to lose faith in the imaginative hopefulness of childhood within the framework of WW2 Japanese upper society. tackles the complexes of class, wartime family dynamics, and the mortality of a man who’s made so many people’s childhoods so much more magical.
The birds are cool too though. Not my favorite ghibli movie but it is a banger nonetheless.
