  veiled, backs turned, voices through the other side of a wall. A hallway of billowing red curtains. Hazy smoke filled rooms. Elegant floral patterns and layers of torn wallpaper sagging under humid Hong Kong weather. Rainstorms, her catching his eyes, outstretched finger and a motion to his belt. This movie is told through what is only suggested, what we don’t see, what is talked around, and what can be said under the pretext of practice or pretend.

  Letterboxd is very cheeky for measuring this movie in fires. A sparse and expansive masterpiece. Lots of parables, lots of long silences, slow pans on long takes, “oui,” and women staring at each other. It was very beautiful and very moving. It was a visually striking piece, with simple earthy colors, incredible light, and shocks of green and blue.
