Watched this with Rahul and Sonal before our Twin Peaks The Return rewatch. A cool premise and super entertaining first couple of acts. Nic Cage was great and the absolute relentlessness with which his character was punished was genuinely hilarious. Like just when you think things couldn't get any worse they hit you with something so absurd (the scene where he goes home with Molly... oh man I had to watch it through my fingers and it was so stupid…

Enjoyed this, but it wasn't particularly exciting or interesting. I don't normally like this letterboxd tic of talking about directors with a kind of haughty and dismissive familiarity (for I am but a humble rando) but I'm gonna have to be a hypocrite and say that I think this is typical of Eggers post the Witch. Has all the surface qualities of being 'great art' but something about the movie itself just falls frustratingly short. Also, I preferred the Orlok from the 1922 film cause he looks like a less evil version of Alain De Botton....unsettling.
