this movie predictably couldn’t capture the genius of delillo - you can’t replicate the rhythm nor depth of amazing prose in a novel with a movie and you shouldn’t even try to. weird casting, some of my favorite characters were missing and the tone was completely off. still fun to watch tho

Emperor Tomato Ketchup 1971
children in klan robes chasing adults with shovels, children playing table tennis with a naked, dead adult as the net, children committing sex and war crimes against adults over a game of rock-paper-scissors; i'm honestly shocked that this was legal to make. i think i need a japanese film professor to properly historicize this to fully understand the director's take on japanese postwar politics. can't really recommend anyone to watch this - any normal, not film-brain poisoned person would be pretty repulsed i feel like. but if you are an absolute freak maybe give it a try
