  I went into this showing expecting my opinion on this film to change, to reevaluate it and possibly like it less, after over a decade of hearing that it's overrated and that the opening is the best part. 

  I left the theater with the same reaffirmed love for this film that Carl himself regains for life. The opening of this movie is like, the fifth or sixth best scene in a magical realist romp that rewards your suspension of disbelief…

  Really important work centering on the genocidal sterilization campaign enacted by the United States against Puerto Rico, mostly Puerto Rican women. All in service of capital, eugenics, and anti-revolutionary ideals.

  You can watch the 40-minute documentary here. Feel what I felt about this country we live in, this place my father and grandmother were shuttled to, to clear the way for future white finance bros buying up all the land in the home I was never given the chance to know. The feeling is not good.

  I had a good time, but was kinda sour on this on my first viewing. I don't know exactly what shifted, but I deeply enjoyed everything about this on my second.
