A writer's film through and through. Have now watched it a handful of times. This film, having recently dissected it scene-by-scene for hours, is quite challenging to get into as there's helluva lot going on in the first five minutes alone, which's really the only major complaint I have of it. A minor quibble regarding the writer's character is his weird monologue, of which I'm conscious every time because the film otherwise has some great monologues. And the ending always melts my heart.

The Rapture 1991
Starts as an erotic story, then turns into a psychological thriller, and finally transforms into an ethereal fable that it was aspiring to be throughout. Although the first half of the film is replete with morbid humour, the second half takes a bone-chilling one-eighty shift as at one point occurs a scene that is essentially a dark subversion of the Isaac and Abraham Event. The consequential ending is so admirable. The only criticism I can think of is that the born-again bullshit gets very repetitive, something that the film itself recognises in one hilarious scene.

The Banshees of Inisherin 2022
Existence. "Foiled again. But "faint heart" and all that."
Best film I've seen that has come out in the last couple of years. McDonagh is a terrific, strong writer.
