Really want to like this more, because Mom and Dad takes aim at an intensely taboo subject even for horror movies, that being parents killing their own children, or filicide, and choosing to explore taboos is essential to understanding them, and I suppose knowing if a certain fear is misplaced or valid. Watched this a while back, so— I remember it being very Oscar-y. Cate Blanchett gives a really badass performance, some fun rambling classical music philosophy monologues, the shots are almost all grey and Blanchett is in all of them. A pensive and somewhat melancholic  modern character study of a powerful and respected woman whose success and fame spiral out of her control. Worth watching if you love Classical/Western Art Music, or Cate Blanchett.

You have to be in the right mood for this one. Directors cut is where it’s at.
This film works well for so many reasons I can’t even start to get into it. One of my favorite treatments of religion in a (horror) movie, and my favorite movie about staircases.

In my opinion, 70s horror just hits different. In the 80s slashers were king and many directors spit out movies as quickly as they could to capitalize on the VHS…
