I am stunned at how underrated this film is. It’s the action packed alien invasion movie that war of the worlds failed to be. Even those who aren’t the biggest Tom Cruise fans can at least find some pleasure in watching him die over and over again.
As the film progresses, you are able to see Cage’s transformation from a gutless coward into the god of war which I find very satisfying since it’s not usually a type of character…

Everything about this film pleases me; from the painful symmetry to its beautifully crafted personal-feeling story. I’m a big fan of the return to stop-motion animation and the woeful atmosphere created by gloomy music
I love the cast and the resulting dialogue between them. There were moments that had me laughing raucously and moments that melted my heart. I’m also fond of the melancholic tone conflicting with the cheerful dialogue of the dogs
These factors and more made this movie a true experience for me and it will go down as one of my all time favourites
