  - the alien monsters were not the kind i usually go for, but they sort of won me over
  - i needed more duplicates in conflict with one another in the plot
  - i needed less of the gemstone-trump goon squad (but i did like them)

  equal parts quirky and sincerely emotive. the movie balances these two registers deftly and the warm, low lit scenes of community support were really moving to me. 

  special mentions:
  - the long hug between the two guys 
  - refreezing the riels 
  - the teacher in the opening scene
  - the turkey salesman’s singing

  a beautiful film that slows down my attention and makes space for my imagination to grow.

  an adventure tale of the highest order
  good music, some really stunning animated parts
  i liked the heron/chicken-style bird even tho it scared me.
  scariest animals was the leviathan. i got chills.

  floods are also scary and i was reminded of my (cured?) anxiety around them!
