Better yet… was watching him fuck his mom really necessary? What purpose did that serve Daemon as a character? What growth did he experience?! Huh?!
So i was reading Darkcom’s evaluation result for Dante and it says,
“Dante demonstrates distinguished demon hunting abilities. However, he needs to commit to his missions more seriously. He also needs to improve his communication skill and go through leadership training.”

Vergil sounds younger than Dante here, awww. But it’s a nice touch. He feels like the emotionally impulsive and less mature sibling between him and Dante, which is an accurate characterization.
I also really appreciated seeing Eva lashing out in frustration. It makes her feel more human and less of the idealized, angelic mother that the twins envision her to be after her death.
My favorite part of the new Devil May Cry show is, not only does the animation style make it feel like an adult saturday morning cartoon, but it’s introducing a new generation of horror fans to industrial metal (!!)

I don’t even feel all that strongly about Netflix DMC either way but I’m being put in the position of having to defend it with my life because the hate for it is rapidly becoming completely insane and disconnected from reality.
Okay but can we talk about how big Dante is? I mean everyone is freakishly tall compared to my own height but fuck, I wouldn’t even make it to this man’s shoulders barefoot.
This whole narrative of “if you liked the anime then you didn’t like the games at all” is frankly ridiculous and it’s not true. Because I’ve played the games every single one, including the 2013 reboot, which I also enjoyed.
I wasn’t expecting it to be faithful to the games at all. It’s an adaptation. The few things I griped about is one: Mary’s character and her clunky dialogue. I don’t care that she cusses, it’s how she cusses and that’s a writer issue. Two: how they nerfed Dante when he was chasing/fighting Mary. When just seconds ago he was beating the shit out of hired mercenaries. This man is half demon with insane speed and this version of Mary is giving him a hard time? But yay for girl power… i guess. Three: the story centered more around darkcom than Dante. And truthfully that only made me want more content, more of Dante and Vergil.
But the things I did enjoy:
The White Rabbit, I thought his writing, voice acting was pretty good. I sympathized with his reasoning and in fact I wouldn’t have hated if he won.
I enjoyed every moment of the action sequences, and Dante’s whole personality in this series has made me love him more. I continued to watch because he made it fun for me!
“What are we shooting at?!” That was all Dante, I even chuckled.
I liked Baines. He wasn’t just your typical bible thumper, he was borderline psychotic and came off more like power hungry cult leader.
All of that combined kept me interested. So… you don’t have to like it but that doesn’t mean I should jump on the bandwagon with you because our opinions are different.
I just finished the Netflix adaptation of Devil May Cry, and… I’m impressed? I genuinely thought it would be bad, but it’s good. 🤠 The people responsible for the soundtrack deserve a raise—listening to Papa Roach, Evanescence, and Green Day was definitely, as Dante would say, a jackpot.
I’ve learned, time and time again… if you post on [tumblr] dot com that you enjoy a videogame film/tv adaptation? people will just accuse you of being a fake fan and beat you with h*mmers. every time. every time I say I like one of them I become oppressed by Gamers.
