Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom (Minimum 2 paragraph overview):

This lesson will be made in collaboration with the website epals. The teacher has chosen the collaborative
project Rap into History. This project is loosely based on the musical Hamilton that is centered around the
life of Alexander Hamilton. This project asks students to produce raps about historical figures, happenings,
and moments. Students will be faced with the task to write and create a rap that could include metaphors,
similes, rhyming, and so much more.

Next, students must type out their raps and share with peers for the editing process. Once students have
revised their historical rap to its final stage, they will be asked to publish it onto the collaborative dropbox for
the project. After publishing, students and teachers from schools around the world will have access to view
and comment on their creations.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?

Students will need access to a computer or tablet to log on to the epals website to publish and share their rap
creations.

Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: Students will collaborate with each together during the editing process of their raps. They will
also be collaborating with students around the world as they publish, view, and comment on other
students raps.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): As a result of engaging in this project, students will be
producing original raps about the life of Alexander Hamilton using literacy standards.

c. Higher-order thinking: Students will have to research about Alexander Hamilton. They will then have
to build connections between his life, and express this through a rap using literary devices. Finally, they
will have to use musical skills such as rhythm to record their rap over a beat.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: Students
will be publishing their original work to epals, a collaborative website for participating classrooms
around the world.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies: How could you implement this proposed learning
experience and still comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?

To ensure student safety, students will be required to publish their raps under an avatar and pseudonym. This
does not affect their learning experience, or their final product and ensures privacy and safety.
