PPM Summary
System engineering also works on the theory of system thinking. System thinking covers the
scope right from the requirement development to the implementation and its validation and
verification so that customer satisfaction can be maximized. System engineering has various
dimension right from the requirement development, technical solution, development of
planning, and finally implementation and validation and verification [ CITATION Sen19 \l
16393 ] (Hamid, Raza & Naqvi,2013). The life cycle of a system includes the feasibility study
of the problem, the analysis of the main problem with respect to the existing system,
designing of the total system to fit with the existing system, then is the implementation of the
system as per the design, and then finally the maintenance of the system so that the ultimate
aim that is customers should be made fully satisfied[ CITATION Rev19 \l 16393 ].
There are various similarities and differences between project management and system
engineering. The areas like task definition, risk management, interaction with the customer
are common between system engineering and project management (Young, Valerdi & Wade,
2016). There is either, think that is related to the limitations present in both the cases with
respect to the quality, cost, scope, time schedule [ CITATION Van13 \l 16393 ] . But there is a
difference between the role of system engineer and program manager. There are various
activities like technical planning, requirement management, implementation in which the
program manager plays the supporting role whereas the system engineer plays the primary
role. But there are also activities like stakeholder management, decision analysis,
configuration management in which the program manager plays the primary role and the
system engineer plays the secondary role. Although the knowledge areas of system
engineering and project management are different but their activities are almost similar
(Boswell, Anbari & Via, 2017).
