1. TOTP (Time-Based One Time Password): TOTP (Time-Based One Time Password) in Aadhaar is a one-time temporary password or OTP, that is generated by a set of rules and is valid only for a period of 30 seconds. TOTP is basically used for OTP Authentication and OTP e-KYC services without OTP generate. The TOTP is an 8- digit long numeric string. The TOTP is a way to circumvent the traditional SMS based OTP. TOTP is generated in mobile applications like mAadhaar- another digital initiative by the government of India.
2. What is mAadhaar? The mAadhaar app is a mobile application that you will be able to download on your Smartphone or iPhone and use it. It can be downloaded on your Android phone via Google Play Store and also on your iPhone via Apple Store. You need to download the application and register yourself by giving the required details as required, after which, you will be able to download your e-Aadhaar as well.
3. How to generate the TOTP in Aadhaar?
The m-Aadhaar Application is a mobile application where Users will register by Aadhaar number and can generate TOTP for using Authentication services. The User must have registered their mobile number with Aadhaar for them to use mAadhaar App. Here, we are describing all steps for using the mAadhaar application:
3.1. mAadhaar App Installation:
Firstly, the user will install the mAadhaar App on Smartphone or iPhone via Google Play Store or Apple Store. The screen will show as: User will click on “Install” Button and will be taken to the next screen as shown below:

After successful installation of the mAadhaar App, the user will click on “Open” Button to use this application.

The user will read Term & condition (As per UIDAI guideline) and click on the “I Consent” button to access the app. The Screen will show as:

Now, the user will select language and click on
“Continue” Button.
Click on Continue Button 3.2 mAadhaar App Registration: After selecting the language, the user will enter a Mobile number for registration on this application and click on the “Next” button. This Screen will show as:

The user will receive an OTP on the given mobile
number, enter OTP in the given field and click on “Submit” Button. This Screen will show as:
Click on Submit Button 3.3 Add Aadhaar Profile in mAadhaar: After verifying the OTP, the Dashboard will be shown on the screen. The user will click on “Register My Aadhaar”. This screen will show as:

Now, the User will create a password

Now, the user will create profile by Aadhaar number.
The user will enter Aadhaar number with security captcha and click on “Request OTP”.

After Verifying the OTP, the User profile will show on the screen. 3.4 Generate TOTP in mAadhaar: Now, the User will click on the “Get TOTP” menu to generate TOTP (Time-Based One Time Password). This Profile Screen will be show as:

the next screen. This TOTP will be valid only for 30 seconds. After complete this time period, the new TOTP will generate automatically for the next 30 seconds. This Screen will be shown as: 4. Things to keep in mind in Aadhaar TOTP: There is certain important aspect which you need to remember with respect to TOTP in Aadhaar and they are started as below:
a) The mobile TOTP will only remain effective for 30 seconds for safety reason. b) Your device’s time must be in accordance with the IST time zone or Indian standard time zone. c) User/Subscriber must have registered their cell number with Aadhaar for them to use mAadhaar App. d) For mAadhaar to be functional, your smartphone must have the SIM of the Aadhaar registered mobile number and not any other Mobile SIM.
Users must “Allow” the mAadhaar App to read the SMS.
