Club Notes
Program
Colin Laviolette our Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) student From Belgium Colin discussed first day of US with lots of rain and finding out his host families were really nice. Belgium really small democracy living very close to German border. two different parts north speaking dutch and southern speaking German and French. He present a picture of Belgiums King as a tradition. Eating is a National first thing they do. Famous Belgium Waffles with 2 kinds Brussels id larger than others. Chocolate is very Good and a proud commodity . Beer is a much more popular in Belgium than US. French Fries as we know them are from Belgium not France. Fiestas and festivals Colin Laviolette are very common throughout Belgium. Many Famous places were presented, Brugges City, Gent with old factories, Brussels bigger town with good college many old buildings over 2 & 3 hundred years old. Oostende beach town with lots of ships and sea gulls are very aggressive and may attack for any loose food in sight. Gas price is twice the price as here. Liege, with huge castles, Colin is from the Country with lots of greenery Mom, Dad older sister older brother. Little brother Hobbies soccer, a lot of writing interests him. Some interesting facts in Belgium. Its legal for 16 year old drinking of beer, drivers at 16 & 9 months for driving test then 6 mo. under permit. Colin answered many questions from the membership and related many personal experiences and stories of his country. It many differences and the understandings of the our two countries. The membership was greatly impressed with Colin discussion and wealth of information about his country.
President Mitch Brown called Meeting to order with flag salute lead by Rotarian Rod Ritchie and Past President Dee Fairbanks provided the invocation. TWSD, & Tyler Edwards of Edwards Const., Rotarian Dave Miller presented Visiting Rotarian from Chico Dana Campbell a past Pres. & Paul Harris fellow, Rotarian Lou Rotar a retired Civil lawyer mentioned as Best club by earth fill dam site presented Incoming Morning Club Rotarian Pres. Howard Sand, Colin Laviolette our RYE, Rotarian Keith Stutznegger presented Mayor Linda Dahlmeier, and Mary Ann Lemmons mother, Student of the month Rotarian Keith Stutznegger Thanked so many members for help with scholarship essay grading. All reviewed the many 500 word essays and participated with student interviews. Keith proudly presented Faith Lemmons a graduating Oroville High Student as our Rotary Club $2,000 scholarship winner.
