Seven (7) Types of Information Systems

o A transaction processing system (TPS) captures and


processes data about business transactions.
o A management information system (MIS) provides
for management-oriented reporting based on
transaction processing and operations of the
organization.
o A decision support system (DSS) either helps to
identify decision making opportunities or provides
information to help make decisions.
o A Executive support system (ESS) uses networks to
gather internal and external information world-wide
from databases, websites, social media platforms for
long-term strategic planning.

1. Timeliness: not out dated; not too early.

for the user. Avoid overload
5. Complete: complete for its purpose
6. Economical: justified cost / benefits.
