Quarter Assessment in Mathematics 8

(Third Quarter)
Prepared By: Mr. Robert John G. Hermoso

Name: ___________________________________________ Grade & Section: ________________ Score: ________

General Direction: Read and understand the test questions carefully. Show your solutions in the other
sheets. Strictly no erasures.
I. Determine whether the statement is TRUE or FALSE. Write your answer after each statement. (1
point each)
1. The conditionals “If P thenQ ” and “If Q then P” are equivalent.
2. If P →Q is true, then Q is true.
3. Both deductive and inductive reasoning are valid forms of reasoning.
4. Axioms are statements that are accepted to be true because they were produced through
deductive reasoning.
5. Theorems can be based on previous proven theorems.
6. An isosceles triangle can have a base of 4 and legs of length 2.
7. When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, alternate interior angles are congruent.
8. When two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, same side interior angles are congruent.
9. An isosceles triangle can have a base of 2 and legs of length 4.
10. When bisecting an angle using straightedge and compass, two congruent triangles will also be
constructed. These triangles are congruent due to SAS Congruence Postulate.

II. Identify what is being asked. Write your answer after each statement. (2 points each)
1. It is a statement that can be written in an if-then form.
2. It is the process by which a conclusion is reached because it is a specific case of a general principle
that is known to be true.
3. A system that has its own language and properties.
4. A statement that is assumed to be true but without proof.
5. It makes use of undefined terms or terms previously defined.
6. The side between two angles.
7. He is often credited as the motivator for logic or deductive reasoning.
8. A polygon that has three sides.
9. Every geometric object (segment, angle, or polygon) is congruent to itself.
10. The sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the length of the third side.

III. Use inductive reasoning to find the next element in the sequence. (3 points each)
1. 500 , 250 ,125 , ¿
5 2 1 1
2. , , , ,
6 3 2 3 ¿
3. 8 AM , 11 AM , 2 PM , ¿
4. – 3 ,6 ,−9 , 12 ,¿
5. 2 , 4 , 16 ,¿

IV. Use deductive reasoning to form a conclusion (if any). (3 points each)
1. If Helga campaigns for the student council, then she will win the school election. Helga won the
school election.
2. All Mathematics teachers in your school have a favorite Mathematics book. Mr. Hermoso is a
Mathematics teacher.
3. If you bring an umbrella, then you will not get wet. You did not bring an umbrella.
4. The sum of two even numbers is even. The sum of m and n is even.
5. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if it has two pairs of parallel sides. Quadrilateral ABCD does not
have two pairs of parallel sides.

V. Get what is asked. (4 points each)
