Snippet Sunday!
Today’s snippet Sunday is gonna be pretty short, since I’ve had a slump lately, but here’s one of the songs that Pamela and Zinnia came up with in the most recent chapter. I think I might actually have written some decent lyrics this time, which is huge, because song writing is not my forte at all. This is Pamela and Zinnia’s only song so far that is explicitly about being aromantic, and being devalued by society because of it:
Ten years means nothing to his six months
And you’re telling me he’s the one
Yeah, cuz he’s the one, not me
And I’ll never get to be the one
Cuz I can’t love you the way the world wants me to
And I can’t love you the way that he loves you
And the way that I loved you was never enough for you
I’m so done with being second best
Because the world’s obsessed with the way that he loves you
The love I have in my heart is always second best
And I’ll never be ok with that
Missed calls and unanswered messages
Because the message is that you don’t want me anymore
Now that you’re his, you don’t need me,
Why did you deceive me and say you were mine?
And I can’t love you the way the world wants me to
And I can’t love you the way that he loves you
And the way that I loved you was never enough for you
I’m so done with being second best
Because the world’s obsessed with the way that he loves you
The love I have in my heart is always second best
And I’ll never be ok with that
We’re adults now, and here’s what that means:
No more best friends forever, cuz there’s no forever
Unless someone loves you the way that he loves you
Cuz the way that he loves is the best way to love
And the love in my heart is always second best
