I can’t tell you how much I love this artwork from ancient Egypt (the Middle Kingdom). People have been raising cattle and practicing animal husbandry for so long, that there is something almost inherently human about this scene.

Everyone in the field of veterinary medicine or agriculture knows the feeling of staying up late with a laboring animal trying to make sure both mom and baby are okay. Delivering a calf is often physically and emotionally exhausting work that takes enormous patience and learned skill. It requires a unique balance of physical strength and gentleness to do correctly. There is no feeling quite like getting that baby out and everyone is okay. I’m certain ancient people must have felt the same way, and I wonder if the artist knew this feeling firsthand. I wonder if those humans depicted were people the artist knew, if the cow and calf maybe were as well.

Something similar happened to me at work about 8 years ago. Several types of cigarettes had an urgent recall, because they had ground glass in them. But.

I only found out about the glass because I was very curious and went digging through the email fine print what the actual cause was, because the reason printed in giant letters was:

CONTENTS COULD BE HARMFUL TO CONSUMERS

Glass tastes really good actually: I don’t see the issue.

Why does glass confuse this website so much

Hey everyone, I know it's going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.

If you have a google account, first go to gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.

Then you need to go to myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.

Honestly, I'm not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.

I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.

Writers: It's asking to read your Google Docs and be able to 'summarize' things from them and such things. I just turned all mine off.

Valamint végigolvastam szinte az egész privacy policyt és arról szól, hogy az app miket gyűjt be rólad, meg hogy a chatbeszélgetéseidet elmenti és sokszor emberek is elolvassák. De ehhez aktívan használni kell az appot. Találtam utalást arra, hogy a dokomentumaidat is átnézi és használja, de ahhoz külön engedélyt kell adni neki.

i have made like 57 reddit throwaway accounts in my life because my only use for reddit is to login once a year to pose niche questions to a sub i assume is compromised of mostly autistic dads desperate to impart their knowledge upon anyone who will listen. when i got my first fisheries job the equipment list my boss sent me just said “knife.” i emailed back asking what kind of knife and he replied “any knife.” i got on reddit and went to some sub about fish and i said “i got a hatchery job in alaska. what knife do i need for multipurpose use. a knife that does it all.” one guy responded in ten minutes breaking down everything about knives & salmon work. gave me a better idea of my job than the interview did. then he recommended a single knife and like twenty other people replied after him “this is the correct knife. no notes.”

What if you were someone who only existed at work so getting fired (or retiring) was essentially the same thing as death. Would the fruit sculpture that your friends at to come to terms with your loss and their own incredibly fragile grasp on their existences still be more traumatic then.
