Arcane and genshin would actually be a pretty neat crossover. I mean, both have doomed siblings and a steampunk upper city with a dilapidated lower level so like… it could work Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

Great question, since I'm writing a new (and probably the last) arc for my main WIP. I use Google Docs at the moment and have 3 outlines I use, which might be overkill but for me it works lol:

1. main outline (with details, songs that match the chapter as I find them, along with the date I finished the chapter draft and the date I posted on ao3)

2. simplified outline (1-2 sentences to keep me on track with the main events of the chapter)

3. timeline (the time frame of when things actually happen so it makes sense pace-wise)

I don't do this with all of my WIPs, just Fighting Winter cause it ended up being way more ambitious and slow burn than I intended πŸ˜‚ for the others, I have one outline that has everything but it's much simpler because there's way less characters...

Can I ask you the same question @did-i-do-this-write? I'm curious what others do as well - tagging my writer friends @chaotic-snowflake @17panicattacksinatrenchcoat and open tag for whoever else wants to participate! (I have more writer moots but some of them have been MIA so no pressure :3)

ok I’m going to preface this with half my fics are written in the back of my gen-ed lectures so I don’t actually have a designated writing time because, well, I don’t have time πŸ˜… my β€œdesignated writing time” goes to working on my thesis so there’s not a lot of free time but what I do manage to do is:

  • If it’s a longer fic, I’ll brainstorm it by hand in a random notebook, and I’ve actually posted a sample of my brainstorming somewhere here in the depths of my blog. This is just a way for me to talk to myself about how I’m gonna get this done, and keep all my various thoughts on paper so I can come back to them
  • Then from there I outline- generally it’s a very vague outline, because I want to have fun and be creative with it and not feel like I’m following a rubric… I do that enough lol
  • And from there, I just write! If it’s a shorter fic, I skip all the previous steps and just completely wing it from whatever idea I have taking up space in my brain that day, but once I’ve done the previous two steps for my longer fics, I just let the words take over and see where they take me!
