Kittens, puppies, my team, music, my best friend @mandamadsen

A busker plays music for a blind autistic girl sitting in a wheelchair. She’s being allowed to stim (flapping and rubbing her shirt) and respond to the music her own natural way. The busker places her hand on the guitar to let her see what is creating the music, and she smiles as he sings to her. They made a connection. That is autism acceptance. Take note. Many autistic people will open up to you like a flower if you gently connect with them in ways that work for them instead of forcing them to connect with you in ways that only work for you. I hope that sweet kid grows up to be a musician or artist! :)

REALLY FUN FACT for big cats cheetahs are fucking docile as shit

my grandfather ran a cheetah sanctuary in south africa and he’d just lie with them and sleep among them and they’d rub against him and chirp at him they’re big fucking babies

Another Fun Fact: Cheetahs are incredibly nervous animals. One of the (many) reason’s they’re going extinct is that cheetahs are so sensitive and nervous, some of them are literally too nervous to breed. Others will breed, but stress themselves out so much, they’ll lose their cubs. So zoos with breeding programs had to figure out how to make cheetahs comfortable enough to first of all, get laid and secondly - not spazz themselves into miscarrying. So what’d they do? They gave the cheetah’s their very own Service Dogs! The dogs make them feel safe, protected and secure!

Too late for me but for anyone who struggles with reading!! my dad just showed me a series called Thug Notes (available on Youtube) and it’s easily the most helpful thing I’ve seen for summarizing and analyzing literature in a way that’s entertaining and easy to understand. SparkNotes and stuff like that never helped me an ounce but this is excellent

my best friend is autistic & her mom is forcing her to go on a gluten-free diet and take a ~magic pill~ (falsely advertised probiotic) called the All Star Probiotic to cure her autism. what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck

i can drop the link to the site if anyone wants to see how fucked up it is but basically the site claims that gut health is directly related to brain health and because people on the spectrum generally have gut problems (not mentioned: the fact that those gut problems are usually due to sensory issues with food affecting their diet) and this pill will fix the gut problems. it never directly claims it’ll cure autism but it’s pretty heavily implied, and all the reviews make me physically ill.

here’s a couple screenshots from the site i still have on my phone

there’s no links to or even mentions of research studies anywhere on the site as far as i’ve found. i am on the spectrum and have been offered these by my best friend’s mom several times. please please spread that a gluten free diet is not going to cure autism (it’s been shown there’s a correlation with GLUTEN SENSITIVE autistic kids not having EXTREME meltdowns but that’s all, and it hasn’t even been proven) and there is no magic pill cure, nor does there need to be.

this makes me so unbelievably upset. normally i like to see a mix of opinions on my posts because it exposes me to other beliefs and helps me develop my own ideas on things, but if you in any way think that any part of this- “this” being trying to cure a child’s autism by forcing them to take internet pills or making them keep a diet that’s causing them physical stomach pains and other discomfort they weren’t experiencing to any degree before- is fine or acceptable behavior as a parent or other legal guardian, don’t ever interact with my blog again.

Turn on the sound and watch this raven mimic a human voice. This is Mischief the white-necked raven. These ravens are found throughout eastern and southern Africa, and are common near human habitation.  Like all members of the Corvidae family, ravens are extremely intelligent. They use tools to get food if necessary, and can even mimic human speech! (Source)

Okay but that’s not some Gilbert Gottfried ‘RAAAK POLLY WANNA CRACKER’ this raven actually sounds like a person what the fuck

Imagine walking into a forest with a bunch of ravens and they start saying some scary messed up stuff “you’re gonna die” and “no one can hear you”. Then it turns out there was a gruesome murder and the Ravens heard it all.

When I was training to be a battered women’s advocate, my supervisor said something that really blew my mind:

“You can always assume one thing about your clients; and that is that they are doing their best. Always assume everyone is doing their best. And if they’re having a day where their best just isn’t that great, or their best doesn’t look like your best, you have to be okay with that.”

Any now whenever anyone in my life, either a friend or a client, frustrates me, disappoints me, or pisses me off, I just tell myself They are doing their best. Their best isn’t that great today, but I have days where my best isn’t that great either.

this. everytime. this.
