Became considerably less impressed with the ancients for predicting eclipses once I learned that they repeat every 18 years. I could've figured that out
well (for solar) there's a factor of a third of a day though, so the next one is a third of the way around the earth. it only repeats in the same place over 54 years! so to notice the pattern you'd need at least 108 yr old records (with no confounding eclipses in between)
If I lived in ancient Mesopotamia I would simply eat the plant that makes you immortal and wait
When we were reading the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, our professor told us that one year, one of his students (an astrophysics major) had used this cool new model of the solar system to look for past eclipses. And that the model lined up exactly with the eclipses reported in the Chronicle.
A few days later, he came back and rather sheepishly said he'd learned that the model had been calibrated on the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle...
the template would later branch out to any negative word, but the original naming scheme for sith lords was darth + a negative word starting with 'in', with the front cut off. e.g. Darth (In)vader, Darth (In)sidious, etc. in a return to tradition, my star wars property centres the fearsome Darth Cestuous
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Tolerance the Woke? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you.
if you have a small apartment you rent on your own and can buy the exact groceries you want at the store you are living a life materially better than like 99.99% of people who have ever lived
ppl in the past could move stuff w/ their minds n their bread was real bread not insane celiac stuff. so.
ppl in the past had to move stuff with their minds because they were too poor to have arms and they mostly ate porridge. forward into progress.
As always, be polite in the comments.
Bonus question: does it change depending on where you are/who you're with?
Anon uses they/he/she pronouns but often says "any" in non-queer spaces for simplicity, since many people outside of the community don't have much experience with other pronouns and would likely assume "any" to mean they/he/she; anon wonders how other people use the "any/all" categories.

One legitimately weird thing about Tumblr is that we literally can’t code for shit, many people quit working at Tumblr due to a hostile work environment, and we can’t seem to program a simple blogging website to not flood your RAM.
nearing the 10 year anniversary of banishing editable reblogs
i see a lot of neurodivergent people talk about how they can't handle bright white overhead lighting at home, so their preference is to have warm/yellow bulbs in lamps as the main source of household lighting, often with colouful neon lights/fairylights/candles as other secondary lighting sources. I feel like this is actually more common than we think but maybe there are some insane people who love or at least are indifferent to bright white overhead lighting. so poll time.
if you say bright white overhead lighting is your main lighting preference please tell me why

This one truly took so long to paint ;_; I've always loved paintings with lots of tiny hidden details but couldn't work on those very often because of my hand injury. But I decided to really indulge this time. Most of my paintings take 1-3 recording sessions but this one took 10 ahahaha
The character is Dante, a painter from my work in progress novel about artists titled 1000 Words Unframed. He's an eccentric one and likes to paint trompe l'oeil, aka illusions. Here he's painting a bunch of clocks onto his wall, but none of the clocks are accurate, some having 13 hours, one clock is a spiral, another is made of eyeballs lol. He is also a lover of cats, hence all the cat portraits and kitties hanging out. Here are some close ups of all the details!
Here's a timelapse of how I painted it. The bottles and table in the foreground started as 3D models in SketchUp. The rest is painted in Paint Tool SAI. The full HD image, 10 art videos, and PSD file will be DMed on Patreon on April 5th.

been doing a LOT of analog note-taking / journaling / planning lately (new years' resolution fulfilled! yes!), and I've slowly but surely started writing mostly in cursive again.
that said, I'm old (almost 35, ew) so I have questions.
if you want to RB this and put you age / locale / whatever else you think is relevant in the tags, that'd be very cool
I love this story so much. It's one of my favorite things that Rachel Swirsky has ever written (and Rachel is a tremendous writer.)
It's about the generational aftermath of an alien invasion of Earth, told through the relationship of two women, one human and one alien. It's funny, heartfelt, moving. Every time I read it, I laugh and I cry.
Hey i’s me. Monkey Overwatch. Hope you all had a lovely summer. Your dad loves you. Your dad loves you so fucking much. please return my texts. Enjoy the burger i sent you in the mail.
The Circle of Magic books are great, because they're like, "Do you have a magical special interest? Then it's off to Lesbian Nun Cottage for you, children!"
As a Private Property owner (ie not a proletarian) I regret to inform you that taking something I wrote/drew, transforming it into a set of tokens corresponding to either a word fragment or a pixel, transforming each token into a vector with thousands of dimensions, multiplying each vector by literally billions of other numbers, 0ing out any value smaller than 0, and then repeating these multiplication and 0ing steps a few hundred times, before calculating the partial derivative of each of those steps in relation to one of those vectors, adding the results to the billions of numbers you multiplied each vector by such that each and every vector passed to it nudges it just slightly down a "hill" on a surface covering thousands and thousands of dimensions, taking the final vector that results from all these multiplication and 0ing steps, converting that into a probability distribution based on those billions of numbers which have repeatedly been pushed down a 50000 dimensional hill, randomly sampling one dimension from that vector using its value as probability, selecting a word from a dictionary using the dimension randomly selected as an index? That's actually copyright infringement. Anyway check out my latest fanfiction, it's not plagiarism because it's transformative
