Little sweeties.

Those are caterpillars. It's just that every one keeps insisting they're worms.

@elodieunderglass they’re not horrible, but they do have legs

They’re lovely thank you!

If you've ever been disappointed by dragonfruit, especially if you felt like it tasted like nothing, then I'm like 90% sure you had unripe dragonfruit, which tastes like nothing. There's a small window of time where it tastes amazing. You must have the patience of a hunter. Do not strike until your prey is at its most delicious

TIPS FOR DRAGONFRUIT/PITAYA

  1. You want PINK flesh not white flesh. It's sweeter. Pink pitaya never done me wrong.
  2. You want DENSE pitaya. It's like the watermelon rules, heft them and compare weight-to-size ratios.
  3. You want ROUND. I don't really know why but the longer ones ain't usually as sweet.
  4. You want SHORT petal tips not the longer ones, this usually tells you if it's pink on the inside or not.
  5. Once you have caught your sessile prey you will WAIT patiently for the petals dry out, until the TIPS of the petals have started to turn BROWN
  6. FEAST

Be free, I love you

Lol. Lmao even

“ So it’s not the same species at all.”

“ Only if you use the scientific definition of species! However, if you use my definition that I just made up-“

It's a lot worse than made up, even; it's also how some pseudoscience quack racists try to redefine different ethnic groups as "subspecies" of humanity.

A group of Wikipedia editors have formed WikiProject AI Cleanup, “a collaboration to combat the increasing problem of unsourced, poorly-written AI-generated content on Wikipedia.” The group’s goal is to protect one of the world’s largest repositories of information from the same kind of misleading AI-generated information that has plagued Google search resultsbooks sold on Amazon, and academic journals. “A few of us had noticed the prevalence of unnatural writing that showed clear signs of being AI-generated, and we managed to replicate similar ‘styles’ using ChatGPT,” Ilyas Lebleu, a founding member of WikiProject AI Cleanup, told me in an email. “Discovering some common AI catchphrases allowed us to quickly spot some of the most egregious examples of generated articles, which we quickly wanted to formalize into an organized project to compile our findings and techniques.”

This is a great post to promote that you can donate to Wikipedia at any time, with almost any amount of money! You can even set up a reoccurring donation, like I did.

my personal pick for most underrated animal is the european legless lizard, which i think is often taken to just look like a normal and rather plain snake, but if you're familiar with reptile anatomy at all it looks more like some sort of bizarre heraldic fantasy creature than basically anything else on earth

They are so uncanny valley to me, partially because of how they look, but moreso because of how different handling them is from actual snakes.

If you've held a snake, you probably know that, for the most part, they're good at holding on to you. They're pliable and you can bend them around pretty easily. They grip onto you on their own. An excellent experience, overall.

These guys are rigid as HELL. They're covered in these scales called osteoderms that have bone in them, and it makes them STIFF. This makes supporting them comfortably much more difficult, especially because you need to support these guys specifically at their hips.

Also, one of their main defenses against predators that have caught them is to death roll and twist their bodies. So if a legless lizard does not want to be held, it is going to put in a GOOD deal of effort to roll out of your hands and probably fall to the ground.

They can also drop their tails, which is nerve-wracking.

HOT AUTISTIC ADULTS IN YOUR AREA ARE UNSURE IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO THEM...CLICK HERE TO ESTABLISH CLEAR INTENT

I just learned about the buoy barnacle and it's already one of my favourite animals

look at this!!!!!!

is this not the coolest thing ever???????

head standing crustacean!!!!!!!!

This animal is right side up though! Regular barnacles are attached to things by their heads, and the "tentacles" are their legs used to filter for food. Instead of attaching to something, this barnacle grows a foamy puff from its head, modified from the "glue" other barnacles make :)
